Burgess is “CiCi’s Pizza B-L Player of the Week”

Junior cornerback Pat Burgess, the CiCi’s Pizza Batesburg-Leesville Player of the Week, came up huge with two game-affecting plays in last week’s 20-17  win over Barnwell in the 2A Lower State championship. The speedy 5-9, 165-pound Burgess prevented a sure touchdown with the Panthers already trailing 14-6 in the first quarter, running down a War Horse kickoff returner who looked to have a clear path to the end zone. The Panthers wound up keeping Barnwell off the scoreboard on that possession, preventing the War Horses from extending their lead to two touchdowns for the second time in the first quarter. Then, Burgess knocked down a Barnwell pass on their final drive of the game, preserving the Panthers’ 20-17 lead and ensuring B-L a trip to this evening’s state championship game at Benedict College. Great job, Pat!

Williams is “CiCi’s Pizza B-L Player of the Week”

Freshman Ke’shoun Williams, the CiCi’s Pizza Batesburg-Leesville Player of the Week, figures to be a big factor in Friday night’s 2A third round playoff match-up with Bamberg-Ehrhardt. Williams, a 6-0, 165-pounder who starts at free safety and wide receiver for the Panthers and also gets plenty of snaps at QB for coach Perry Woolbright’s team, was outstanding in B-L’s 42-7 road win over Andrews last Friday and hopes for a big game tonight against B-E. The Panthers handed Bamberg-Ehrhardt a 41-20 defeat back on a October 14 in the teams’ Region 5 regular season meeting, a loss that has turned out to be the only blemish on the Red Raiders (11-1) season to date. Great job, Ke’shoun!
