Senior Tyler Estridge, the Providence Heart Ben Lippen Co-Player of the Week (with teammate Nat Turner),led a potent Falcons batting order with a remarkable .470 average as BLS cruised to the Region 1-AAA regular season title with a perfect 8-0 conference slate. Estridge, who shared Region Player of the Year honors with Turner and Cardinal Newman’s Cam Tringali, will lead his team in its playoff opener Monday night against Augusta Christian in the first game of a best-of-3 series. Junior ace Nat Turner, the Providence Heart Ben Lippen Co-Player of the Week (with teammate Tyler Estridge), has led the Falcons to the top seed in the SCISA AAA baseball playoffs, which begin on Monday, amassing a 9-0 record with a sparkling 1.60 ERA and 57 strikeouts. As a result of his tremendous regular season, Turner was named, along with Estridge and Cardinal Newman pitcher Cam Tringali, as one of three Region Tri-Players of the Year. The Ben Lippen baseball team finished undefeated (8-0) in Region 1-AAA regular season play and enters tomorrow’s best-of-3 first round playoff match-up with Augusta Christian as the team to beat for the SCISA state championship. Head coach J.J. Johnson, the Crescent Construction Midlands Coach of the Week, has again done a great job blending a talented pitching staff led by 9-0 junior Nat Turner and a lineup full of active bats, led by senior RF Tyler Estridge (.470). Senior shortstop Robert Satcher, the CiCi’s Pizza Ben Lippen Boys Player of the Week, signed to play baseball at College of Charleston last week. Satcher, who hit a blistering .444 as a junior, talked with us last Tuesday about his decision to join the Cougars program. Great job, Robert!
Senior Emily Letts, the CiCi’s Pizza Ben Lippen Girls Player of the Week, won the 2016 SCISA 3A girls cross country championship meet by finishing an impressive 44.56 seconds ahead of runner-up Maryah Nasir of Heathwood Hall. For Letts, it marked only the second time in some 50 cross country races that she had defeated Nasir, the Midlands top girls runner, and completed a steady 5-year progression to the top. Beginning in 2012, as an eighth grader in her first season of cross country competition, Letts finished the SCISA championship meet in 61st place. She improved to 19th place as a freshman before earning All-State honors as a sophomore, finishing a strong fifth. Then last year, Letts finished a close second to Nasir before claiming the crown in this, her senior season. Letts will compete in the Foot Locker South Region Cross Country Championships in Charlotte’s McAlpine Park on Nov. 26. Ben Lippen 8th grader Caroline Eckstrom was named the SCISA Region 1-3A girls tennis Player of the Year after leading the Falcons to the state semifinals. Eckstrom has now made All-Region for two consecutive years.
Ben Lippen sophomore Kristy Carnes, a setter and outside hitter, was named to the All-Region volleyball team at season’s end. She joined her older sister, senior Amanda Carnes, on the SCISA 3A-Region 1 team. Great job, Kristy!

Senior Knox Carlen, the CiCi’s Pizza Ben Lippen Boys Player of the Week, is a 2-way starter for the Falcons at RG and DT. Carlem, a 5-9, 240-pounder, returned a fumble for a touchdown against Wilson Hall and has tremendous on both sides of the ball for coach Derek White’s squad.
