Pirie is “CiCi’s Pizza Cardinal Newman Player of the Week”

  Junior guard Brandon Pirie, the CiCi’s Pizza Cardinal Newman Player of the Week,┬áled the Cardinals with 23 points in his debut for coach Philip Deter’s squad, an 80-58 road loss to the Zion Williamson-led Spartanburg Day Griffins. Pirie, a 5-11 transfer from River Bluff who, in addition to having a great shooting touch from deep, also plays as hard and smart as anyone in the Midlands, added 3 steals and an assist in the season-opener. Great job, Brandon!

CN basketball G Chico Carter is polished performer at guard

Cardinal Newman sophomore guard Chico Carter, in his second year as a starter, will be a cornerstone of a talented Cardinals squad which is expected to contend for the SCISA 3A championship this season. A talented 6-2 guard who can score and create on the offensive end in addition to being a strong defender, Carter is an integral part of coach Phil Deter’s team.

Cunningham is “CiCi’s Pizza Cardinal Newman Boys Player of the Week”

  Senior Emmanuel Cunningham, the CiCi’s Pizza Cardinal Newman Boys Player of the Week, won the 50 freestyle and finished 3rd in the 100 free in the SCISA 3A state swim meet, capping a tremendous season in the pool. Cunningham’s accomplishments are made even more remarkable by the fact that he had to learn to swim when he took up the sport a mere five years ago. Great job, Emmanuel!

Watson is “CiCi’s Pizza Cardinal Newman Girls Co-Player of the Week”

  Senior Kendall Watson, the CiCi’s Pizza Cardinal Newman Girls Co-Player of the Week, concluded her decorated career on the volleyball court by repeating as the SCISA 3A Region 1 Player of the Year. A two-time All-State selection at libero, Watson led the Cardinal girls to the state semifinals and is mulling several offers to continue her career at the college level. Cardinal Newman’s Martin a big presence for Cards hoops

Dayhuff leads CN boys XC to state runner-up finish

Sophomore Palmer Dayhuff ran a PR of 17:15.73 to help the Cardinal Newman boys to a 2nd-place finish in the SCISA 3A boys cross country state championships, narrowing missing out on a state championship by a 71-73 margin to Heathwood. Dayhuff’s time was good for a 4th-place finish individually, just missing out on a top 3 finish by less than four seconds. Great job, Palmer!

Cardinal Newman’s Egan makes XC All-State for 3rd straight year

Junior Bennett Egan made the SCISA 3A boys cross country All-State team for the third consecutive season, helping the Cardinal Newman boys to a 2nd-place finish in the state meet. The Cardinal boys finished behind Heathwood by the narrowest of margins, edged 71-73 by the Highlanders. Egan finished in fifth place individually, running a 17:33:65 to earn All-State honors. Great job, Bennett!

Stokes is “CiCi’s Pizza Cardinal Newman Girls Co-Player of the Week”

  Senior Lindsay Stokes, the CiCi’s Pizza Cardinal Newman Girls Co-Player of the Week, concluded her varsity swimming career by helping the Cardinal girls to a 6th place finish in the SCISA 3A state swim meet, fulfilling her goal of setting personal bests in both the 100 backstroke and 100 free. Great job, Lindsay!
