Lexington’s girls golf team, under the superb leadership of Crescent Construction Midlands Coach of the Week Brandon Smith, won its 11th state title in the last 13 years at the Members Club at Wildwood on October 24 and 25, winning the 5A crown by an enormous 38 strokes over runner-up White Knoll.
That margin of victory was the third-largest in state history.
Smith, in his eighth year coaching the Wildcat girls, produced three golfers in the Top 8 finishers: junior Gracyn Burgess, who shot a two-day total of 154 to finish second; 7th grader Isabella Rawl, who fired a 156 to finish third; and 8th grader Karlee Vardas, who carded a 160 to finish tied for 8th place.
All three golfers earned All-State honors for their superb showings.
Congratulations and super job, Coach Smith!
