Gray Collegiate sophomore Khalil Robinson returns at point guard and will again be the man who orchestrates the War Eagles on both ends of the floor for coach Dion Bethea’s talented team.

The 6-foot Robinson averaged 11 points and a team-high 7 assists last year for a squad that finished 23-2 but, as a new school, was not eligible to compete for any SCHSL titles.

That all changes this year, with GCA not only the overwhelming favorite to win the 2A state championship while competing in Region 3, but also beginning the season as the 16th-ranked team in the USA Today Preseason Boys Super 25 poll, including a #5 ranking in the paper’s South region.

Robinson and his teammates open the season on Saturday in the Chicago Elite Classic against Sunrise Christian of Wichita (KS). the school where USC freshman Maik Kotsar prepped last season.
