Flora’s Raquel Acco nearing end of prolific HS career

A.C. Flora tennis standout Raquel Acco has been playing #1 singles for the Falcons’ elite program for several years, leading the team by example while enjoying remarkable success for coach Amy Martin’s perennial title contenders. Acco talked about the special group of seniors whom have helped make Flora girls tennis a dominant force for nearly a decade.

Playing at #2 singles, Flora senior Megan Pleasant helped lead the Falcons to a doubleheader win over Lower Richland on Senior Night. Pleasant reflected after the match on what has been a marvelous career under the guidance of coach Amy Martin.

Bess Watson is “CiCi’s Pizza A.C. Flora Player of the Week”

    Senior Bess Watson, the CiCi’s Pizza A.C. Flora Player of the Week,¬†provides team leadership and outstanding play at #2 doubles for the Falcon girls’ tennis team. Last week, Watson combined with Caroline Coble to storm back from a 5-0 first set deficit to win at #2 doubles against defending 5A semifinalist River Bluff, squaring the match at 3-all and paving the way for a dramatic 4-3 Falcon win. ACF’s Martin is “Crescent Construction Girls Coach of the Week”

    A.C. Flora head coach Amy Martin, the Crescent Construction Girls Coach of the Week, has guided the Falcon girls’ tennis team to another great start with victories in 5 of 6 matches, including a 3-1 record at the highly competetitive FTA preseason tourney in Florence. Flora’s Megan Pleasant talks Falcon girls’ tennis

A.C. Flora junior Megan Pleasant has been playing on the girls’ varsity team since seventh grade when she earned the #5 singles spot on coach Amy Martin’s squad. Now playing #2 on a team loaded with talent, Pleasant has helped lead the Falcons to five wins in their first six matches, including an impressive 3-1 showing in the elite FTA preseason tourney in Florence. Charlie King is the “Providence Heart ACF Co-Player of the Week”

  Junior Charlie King has had an amazing week, helping his ACF lacrosse team to a berth in Saturday’s AAAA-A championship game while also being named the state’s Defensive Player of the Year. King, the Providence Heart A.C. Flora Co-Player of the Week (along with teammates Sam Duffie & little brother William), will hope for one last superb game in Saturday’s title match-up with Bishop England at Chapin High. Great job, Charlie!

William King is “Providence Heart ACF Co-Player of the Week”

Freshman attack William King’s goal on a Sam Duffie assist with 19.7 seconds left gave A.C. Flora a dramatic comeback win over Christ Church and earn the Falcons a berth in Saturday’s AAA-A state championship game against Bishop England. King, who established himself as one of S.C.’s elite freshmen over the course of the season, is the Providence Heart A.C. Flora Co-Player of the Week, an honor he shares with both his older brother Charlie and the aforementioned Duffie. Great job, William!

Purdy’s Falcon boys earn LAX state championship game berth

A.C. Flora clawed back from a 3-goal deficit late in the second half to defeat Christ Church 12-11 and claim a spot in Saturday’s boys AAAA-A lacrosse state championship game at Chapin. The Falcons will face Bishop England in a 6:00 pm start. Head coach Mickey Purdy has ingrained a tough, play-to-the-final-horn mindset into his Falcon team, never more evident than in Wednesday’s dramatic, come-from-behind Upper State championship win over the Cavaliers when Jack Sparrow tied the game with just over a minute left, setting the stage for freshman standout William King’s game-winner with only 19.7 seconds left on the clock.
