Junior heavyweight wrestler Seth Branham, the Gary Patterson State Farm Lugoff-Elgin Player of the Week, has been dominant while leading the Demon grapplers to a 24-4 overall record, including a perfect 6-0 in Region 6-4A competition. Lugoff-Elgin senior linebacker Adam Rowson led the South team with four tackles for loss in last Saturday’s North-South All-Star Game in Myrtle Beach. Rowson talks about enjoying an outstanding week preparing for the game, including making new friends and a special trip to Target with a group of disadvantaged children.
Junior Seth Branham, the Gary Patterson State Farm Lugoff-Elgin Boys Player of the Week, is in his second year wrestling in the heavyweight weight class for the Demons. Branham, a 6-2, 240-pounder who also plays right tackle for the L-E football team, helped the Demons to the third round of last year’s state playoffs and is confident that this year’s team can be even better. Junior forward Caitlyn Simon, the Gary Patterson State Farm L-E Girls Player of the Week, has led the Lady Demons to a 2-1 start. The third-year starter talks about her high expectations for this year’s squad. Great job, Caitlyn!
Senior point guard Brandon Davis, a 5-9 second-year starter, has helped Lugoff-Elgin to three consecutive wins after opening the season 0-2. A team captain, Davis talked with us on Tuesday after scoring 9 points (on three 3-pointers) and adding four assists, two steals and a couple of rebounds in last Friday’s 81-58 win over North Central. Since then, Davis has contributed his usual strong defense and fine all-around play to wins over C.A. Johnson (55-46) and, in a rematch of last Friday’s game, North Central (59-46). The Demons (3-2) next host arch-rival Camden on Friday evening.
