River Bluff girls tennis coach Brian Lim has led the Gator girls to a Lower State title match-up with Region 5-5A rival Dutch Fork on Monday. We talked with Lim following Wednesday’s 5-1 win over Summerville on the Gators’ home courts.
River Bluff junior Elizabeth Roquemore teamed with Shelby Byers to win 6-3, 6-1 at #2 doubles to help the Gators to a 5-1 win over Summerville in the 3rd round of the Lower State girls tennis playoffs. Roquemore and her teammates will host Region 5-5A rival Dutch Fork for the Lower State championship on Monday afternoon at the River Bluff tennis facility.
Senior middle hitter GA Ryan, the UNO’s Pizza River Bluff Girls Player of the Week, will help lead the Gators volleyball team against Wando on Thursday afternoon with a berth in the Lower State finals on the line.
We talked with River Bluff volleyball coach Cindy Robarge-Esposito at Wednesday’s practice as the Gators prepared for this afternoon’s 3rd-round playoff match-up with defending 4A champion Wando in Mount Pleasant. The winner will face either Blythewood or James Island in the Lower State finals.
Senior Ashley Willis, the UNO’s Pizza River Bluff Girls Player of the Week, is an integral part of a Gator volleyball team that is a legitimate playoff contender in the 5A state tourney which begins on Oct. 27. Willis, the defensive specialist for coach Cindy Robarge-Esposito’s squad, is in her second year as a regular with the Gators and is a member of the National Honor Society, carrying a superb 4.6 GPA while taking honors classes. The River Bluff volleyball team didn’t drop a set this past week in a pair of Region 5-5A wins over Spring Valley and Irmo, respectively. Senior tri-captain Reilly Bartlett, who will play her college volleyball at Erskine, is an integral part of a River Bluff team which is now 5-1 in conference play and next faces Dutch Fork on Thursday before hosting Blythewood, who tagged the Gators with its only region loss back on September 8. Bartlett, a talented setter who is in her fourth year as a starter for coach Cindy Robarge-Esposito’s squad, is the UNO’s Pizza River Bluff Girls Player of the Week. Great job, Riley!
River Bluff cornerback Bryson Gartmon, the UNO’s Pizza River Bluff Boys Player of the Week, had 6 PBU in last week’s loss to Dutch Fork, the state’s top-ranked 5A team. Gartmon, a 5-6, 140-pound sophomore, was awarded the Bull Gator award by the RBHS coaching staff and drew praise for his play in the secondary against arguably the best group of wide receivers in the state. River Bluff defeated rival Lexington 3-2 in Region 5-5A volleyball action last Tuesday to improve to 2-1 in conference play. Two days later, the Gator girls dispatched White Knoll in four sets to improve to 3-1 in region play.
